My family and I went to Pacific City, OR last weekend. It was our first trip there, but it definitely won’t be our last. The beach was absolutely amazing and the food at the Pelican Pub & Brewery was incredible. The people of the town are friendly and there are plenty of beach homes and condos to rent at a reasonable price.
We stayed in a beach house that had a visitor’s book for everyone to sign. In the beginning of the book there was a greeting from the owners of the home. I am paraphrasing, but it basically said that they had enjoyed the home and made some amazing memories, but due to the busyness of life they didn’t get to visit very often. They appeared to be saying that they no longer had the time to visit on a regular basis and that is why they were renting it out. Throughout the home there were beautiful pictures of the owners and their little girls. And I couldn’t help but wonder, what has made this family so busy that they would put off coming to their beach house? What could possibly be more important than spending weekends together as a family and making more memories? Please don’t think that I am judging them for being too busy. It was simply a reminder to ME that I am too busy. After all, I don’t need a beach house to be able to begin making memories. Although I would sure like to have one!
You and I may not have a beach house or even a tent for that matter, but we all have the opportunity to get busy. We can get busy being busy or get busy making good memories with our children. I don’t know about you, but I am spending too much time away from my family. I spend too much time focused on things that may actually make memories, but they won’t be good ones! So let’s all decide to refocus our attention on the things that matter the most…on those that matter most.
