Honestly, I am going through this right now in my life. I am finally starting to be "me" and not who everyone expects me to be. I spent 5 years in the Navy, trying to be twice the woman, and man, that I needed to be to survive. Now that I am out, it was really hard at first to get back to me. Then I realized that I have been playing this game with myself my whole life, not just in the Navy. I took a look at my friends and realized there are only a small few I could really be me with. Most say that the Navy changed me for the worst; wrong. Correction, I grew up and they didn't. And now I see I did things to please them and keep them in my life. I still have times when I see the old girl who would do anything for anyone. Then I snap back into reality and see a person who wants nothing more than to be the best mom and wife she can be. And to me, that's better than fitting in with people who do not deserve my time!

What a great article. What I see when I look in the mirror is a person who has overcome a lot of obstacles in her life - divorce x2, depression, a great mother of a wonderful son who excels in school. I see a supportive mother who has figured out how to be strong and raise my son solo for going on 11 years now. It hasn't always been easy. I also see a woman who is very strong willed, independent and stands strong for what she feels is right. I think people see a very independent woman who is strong willed, someone who people look up to and lean on during the rough times. I think people see someone who has work ethic and stands up for what is right. I probably am not always the person that I see and I say that because I don't always stand up for myself as I have a hard time sometimes setting boundaries and allowing people to cross them. I'm getting better at it but still need to work on it. As I age I'm getting better at identifying who is real and important in my life, who I can rely on and who I need to either minimize contact with or eliminate out of my life. Basically who are by true friends who truly care about me.
