The Beastie Boys won a $1.7 million lawsuit against Monster Energy Drinks this week thanks to a jury in New York.
The band sued over Monster’s use of some of their songs, including “Sabotage” and “Make Some Noise,” for a promotional video in 2012. The Beastie Boys argued that the unauthorized use made it seem like The Boys were endorsing the energy drinks.
Monster’s counter-argument was that an employee mistakenly believed he had permission to use the songs. That employee, by the way, is now loading Monster Energy Drinks on the shelves at your nearest Wal-Mart.
